Best Board Games of 2018!

During 2016 I worked with Trunkaroo, a monthly STEM-inspired subscription box service, on a board-game-themed box, perfect for a family games night. It's just been chosen to feature in a list of best board games for 2018.

The boxes, or "trunks" come with everything you need. This box includes two board games to make and customise, and a fun magazine.

Here's the review from The Evening Standard – click on the photo to go to the article.

I worked with Sahar Meghani on developing the content materials needed for the games and Katherine Radcliffe worked on the layouts and look of the games and the mag. It's a really neat package!

You can find out more about Trunkaroo at www.trunkaroo.com and see other boxes I worked on there. Growing Seeds is one of my favs.

WINNER! Best Preschool Reading or Writing Range

A little bit late in adding this update, but the Play-Doh early-learning range I wrote and edited for
Centum Books won Best Preschool Reading or Writing Range at the Progressive Preschool Awards 2017.

I loved developing the range for Centum Books and even got to play with some Play-Doh. OK, this wasn't essential, but it actually really helped in working out how little hands would mould, shape and play.

Included in the range is an early learning wipe-clean book, a super busy and bright search and find book, a wonderful creative board book complete with cutters and a fab gift tin. Plus, a new title based on drawing and making is out now.

The series was designed by Jo Ryan – a preschool designer I have worked with for years. We had lots of fun making them. Congrats to Centum Books and Hasbro!

Junior Design Award for Trunkaroo

Congratulations to Trunkaroo for a Junior Design Award 2017 win in the Kid's Subscription Box category.

I worked with Sahar (CEO Trunkaroo) on developing the content for the boxes over the course of 2015 and 2016 and know how much thought and care goes into making each box. Such a nice product to work on and very different from working on children's books. I learnt a lot working with Sahar and she is an inspiration, working very hard to grow her business, create an educational and engaging product and also taking on so many roles with it being a start-up. Congrats to Sahar!

Here is the product review:

Billed as creative projects for curious kids, the Trunkaroo subscription 'trunk' is aimed at kids who love crafting, science experiments, games and working out what makes things tick. This monthly 'STEAM' (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) themed activity pack designed to spark kids imaginations, should in theory keep them occupied for hours. This is a great choice for any long distance family who want to keep their young relatives enthralled or parents who simply want to give their kids some food for thought.

New Book Alert!

Some lovely new Search and Find titles are about to hit the shelves over the coming months. The books are based on literary classics, so kids and grown-ups alike can search illustrated scenes for some of the most famous characters ever to hit the page.

The first one is Pride and Prejudice and it hits shops in July. It was a pleasure to work on this, mainly because as part of the research I got to read Jane Austen and ashamedly, this was my first time. Having watched many an Austen drama on-screen (BBC version is still the best!), I've never felt the urge to read Pride and Prejudice because it's felt like story I knew too well already, but it really is as good as Colin Firth in breeches.

The books in this series are beautifully illustrated and I really can't wait to see more!
